Creating a Media Clip "On the Fly"
While not recommended, it is possible to create a clip segment "on-the-fly" directly from Presentation Mode. This feature is meant for ADVANCED users and should NEVER be used in place of normal clip creation using the Media Clip creator.
Clips on-the-fly are created by blind typing using the following syntax:
.. (two periods) followed by
the media group name containing the correct media followed by a pipe (|) character followed by
the page and line range.
Example:
To create a clip from page 10 lines 12-15 from the Miller Media group, type the following on screen and hit the enter key:
..Miller|10.12+10.15
![]()
You may also create a clip with no end point by omitting the end range:
..Miller|10.12
![]()
WARNING – clips created on the fly are only as accurate as the time stamped transcript. In addition, it’s possible the next line of text may be displayed AFTER the end range entry. You should NEVER create a clip on-the-fly unless you are ABSOLUTELY SURE that the range selected does not contain anything you don’t want displayed or heard.
The Media Clip creator is designed specifically to allow the user to verify that only the exact range is played back from the segment and is the recommended way to create a clip, even if it requires exiting Presentation Mode. Creating clips on-the-fly is strongly discouraged due to the potential to mistype, as well as playback an unintended range of testimony.
