A new item must have a unique ID, consisting of a prefix, followed by a number of digits.
The ID Start # is the incremented number based on the format and ID settings.
The ID format # is the number of "padded" 0's you'd like in the name. For example, for group BASS0001, the ID prefix is "BASS" and the ID format # is "0000". All images scanned with these settings will take the form BASSXXXX where X is a number from 1 to 9999. Any number between 1 and 9 will be displayed with three 0's (BASS0009), from 10 and 99 with two 0's (BASS0099), from 100 to 999 one 0 (BASS0999). Any number larger than 9999 will have no leading 0, as the format indicates only four 0 "padding" places. If your documents are Bates numbered, be sure you match the number of padded places with the format of Bates number.
The ID Start # is second half of the ID. The ID Start # allows you to create an ID that is not the same as the current page number. This is a common occurrence with documents which have been Bates numbered.
For example, if you have two documents you'd like to scan consisting of three pages each, note the following relationship:
First Document:
Item Prefix ID # Format Current Page # Page ID # Output ID
BASS 0000 1 1 BASS0001
BASS 0000 2 2 BASS0002
BASS 0000 3 3 BASS0003
Second Document:
Item Prefix ID # Format Current Page # Page ID # Output ID
BASS 0000 1 4 BASS0004
BASS 0000 2 5 BASS0005
BASS 0000 3 6 BASS0006
To maintain Bates numbering, the second document Page ID begins with next page number following the last document. In this example, since the last page was BASS0003, the first page of the new document should be named BASS0004. The ID Page # therefore begins with page 4.
