Sanction II comes with a Microsoft Word Add-In which allows you to create a table view document of the Sanction Case database items.
Important - In order to use the Add-In, you must allow Word to enable macros. The report writer cannot be run unless this feature is enabled. See the Microsoft Help topics on security for more information on enabling/disabling macros.
Installing the Add-In
The report writer can be automatically installed using the Sanction II reportwritersetup.exe utility located in the Sanction II subdirectory. To install the Add-In, just double-click on the reportwritersetup.exe file. Click on the Install button to copy the Add-In file to the user’s Word Startup directory.
You may also manually install the add-in by copying the Sanctioniireport.dot file into the appropriate startup subdirectory for Microsoft Word. For Word 2000, copy the file to the C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\StartUp subdirectory. For any other version of Word, see the Word documentation on Add-Ins.
Once the Add-In has been successfully copied, an additional menu is added – Sanction II - to the Microsoft Word main screen menus.
To Create a Report:
1. To launch the Report Writer window, create a new Word document and select Sanction II Report Writer from the Sanction II menu (located next to the Microsoft Word Tools menu).
2. Select the case database containing the information you wish to use from the drop down case combo box.
3. Select the appropriate type of report, Query or Category. Selecting a Category creates a report from ALL items in the selected category, while the Query option allows you to use specific data you have already created a query for in Sanction II.
4. Select the fields you wish to use in the report by double clicking on the field name. Double click in the report list to remove a field. The report columns will be created in the same order as the Report list fields.
5. Click on the Create button to create the report.
Note – You may receive a message after hitting the create button stating that "You cannot make changes to the database…". This is normal, as Sanction II case databases are created from an earlier version of database components than Word 2000. Click OK to continue the report creation. The message has no effect on the document created.
Reports and Queries
When you create a report from any of the Sanction II main case categories, the coding information is available for each category. However, if you create a report from a pre-defined SQL query, coding information is available ONLY for the Documents category. No information will be returned if the Query searches a category outside of Documents. This is by design, as the complexity of a valid SQL statement can drastically limit the return of the correct data. Future versions of the Report Writer may allow for additional category capabilities.
Removing the Add-In
1. From the Word - Tools menu, select Templates and Add-ins.
2. De-select the SanctionIIReport.dot option.
3. Delete the Sanctioniireport.dot file from the Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\StartUp folder.
The Add-In can be restored at any time using the reportadd.exe utility located in the Sanction II subdirectory.
