If you are using a stand alone PC or laptop for trial presentation, but use other machines in the preparation of trial materials, at some point you will need to transfer Sanction II case information and files onto the Trial machine.
There is more than one way to transfer case information, but depending on the size of your case, one method may be more suitable than another.
The simplest method for transferring case information is to copy the entire case subdirectory from one location to another. This ensures that all existing file additions, etc. are copied over. However, this does not move or relocate image or video files (unless they reside in the Case subdirectory path). If you are using CD ROMs to access these files, then this is not an issue as the same file paths will remain when you copy the case.
IMPORTANT - Be aware that if you copy a case directory to a new location, you MUST update the default paths for Bullet Lists, Timelines, etc. This can be done automatically from the Case Properties screen by doing the following:
1. Open the moved case from its new location in Sanction II.
2. From the File menu, choose Case Properties.
3. From the Case Properties screen, click on the Reset button in the Default File paths window.
If your image and video files are located on a network or on local hard drives, then you must use the Relocate feature to ensure all of your information is accessible.
Using Relocate to transfer files
When you use Sanction II's relocate feature, all of the items you select are copied to a new destination. Relocating allows you the option of then updating the current database to reflect the new location, or to leave the existing information intact.
See the topic Relocating Cases for more information on copying items to a trial computer.
