Text clips can be created in the Exhibit Studio manually (by typing in your own text) or automatically (by selecting a range of text from the Transcript Search window and choosing Create Text Clip). Text clips can also be created using various font types and sizes as well as various image sizes. You can even adjust the margins for the output text.
To create a text clip:
1. If the Exhibit Studio is not on screen, click on the Text Clip icon from the main screen Toolbar. (If the Exhibit Studio is already loaded, click on the Text Clip tab). The text clip tab will be active on screen.
2. In the text window, type the text you wish to use (alternatively you can highlight a range of text from the Transcript Search and choose Create Text Clip from the right click popup menu).
3. Click on the Refresh button to display the text as it will appear when converted to a tif image based on the current settings.
Depending on the current Text Clip settings, your typed text may appear overly large, overly small, or off screen entirely. This is because tif file creation is based on the size of the output image as well as the size and type of font selected.
By default, Sanction II attempts to create a tif file based on the number of lines displayed in the text window. You may increase or decrease this size by adding carriage returns in front, or after, the current text.
You may also switch to manual tif file creation by selecting the Custom option and using the scroll bars to adjust the size of the tif in the window.
Once the text appears clearly, you may wish to make a minor adjustment to the top and left margins. If the text is to close to the top, change the value in the Top margin text box. If the text is too close to the left of the image, adjust the left margin. Keep in mind that the margin settings are in inches – therefore you may wish to use decimal adjustments instead of whole numbers. Otherwise the text may be pushed entirely off screen depending on the current image size.
When you are satisfied with the appearance of the clip, click on the Save button. You will be prompted for a unique name for the clip. Enter a name for the clip and choose OK. The text clip will be added to the Other Exhibits category in the Text Clip group.
